Our Region’s Unemployment Rate Lowest in Canada
Nobody’s got fewer unemployed than the Swift Current/Moose Jaw Region.
That’s according to the latest employment statistics from Stats Canada.
There are approximately only 1100 people looking for work in our region according to their monthly report. That’s a nearly 50% drop from the 2000 unemployed in Swift Current/Moose Jaw a year ago.
The unemployment rate of 2.1% is also nearly half the 4% it was in January of 2012. It’s also the lowest rate in Canada.
There were close to 51,100 people working here in January, over 300 more than the same time last year. The Labour force also grew from 50,000 in January 2012 to 52,300 last month.
The unemployment rate in Saskatchewan also dropped from 4.8% last year to 4.1%. Canada’s unemployment rate is down from 7.3% to 6.3%.
