Gull Lake has been approved for a 25-seat, funded Day Care Centre and the initial stages of planning are now taking place. “This is welcome news for parents with small children in our town who need day care,” said Mayor Campbell.
This need has been growing in the last few years. “This year Gull Lake saw a significant increase in the number of children enrolled in school. This signaled a positive increase in the number of new families that have moved to Gull Lake, and a Day Care Centre will help meet the growing demand for childcare in our community.”
Although Town Council will not be operating the day care, it has struck a committee to help the community establish a Board of Directors. Those interested in sitting on the board are invited to leave their names at the town office.
“Both myself and Council are excited about this news and are committed to helping get this Day Care Centre up and running ASAP,” said Campbell.
To help establish the day care, and to determine what needs it must meet, surveys were recently mailed to households. Completing and returning them is the first step toward establishing this important service. If you have not completed your survey, it is not too late to do so and mail it to the town office.
