ANOTHER RECORD FEBRUARY FOR RETAIL SALES
April 23, 2013
Saskatchewan’s retail sales rose in February 2013, hitting another record for the month according to a report released by Statistics Canada today. In February 2013, retail sales were $1.5 billion, 5.0 per cent higher than a year ago (seasonally adjusted), and the second highest percentage increase in Canada.
“Record retail numbers are a major contributor to GDP growth,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. “A strong economy bolsters higher consumer confidence, which in turn boosts retail sales, leads to job creation and provides attractive business opportunities.”
On a monthly basis, sales were up 0.3 per cent between January 2013 and February 2013.
“Our provinces retail climate has changed dramatically over the last few years,” Boyd said. “Our population is much more diverse, and our strong economy has attracted more specialized retailers to meet the consumer demands of the new Saskatchewan.”
