Run for the Hills
If you like walking and running in a beautiful community with the sun shining down, while helping out a great cause, then the Run For The Hills 5k/10k walk and run for breast cancer is the perfect fit for you.
On May 26, residents will have the opportunity to take part in the annual event, helping to raise funds to fight against the horrible disease that has impacted many in Saskatchewan.
While the run is the main focus, there are other things going on for the event.
“We have a speaker that kicks it off,” Sara Kuntz, Gull Lake and Area Recreation Director, said. “It is a fun run and the cadets will have a barbecue after it.”
Starting at the rink, the run will go around the town and while it is called a run, there is no requirement to speed up the pace.
“We call it a run and a race but you can come and walk,” Kuntz said. “We let little kids ride bikes but we would prefer adults did not ride bikes. You can be as competitive as you want to be.”
Last year, the event raised $10,000 in Gull Lake, with all the money going to Breast Cancer Action Saskatchewan. In all, 300 people came out last year and Kuntz is hoping for the same result this year.
“We are hoping to raise $10,000 again and we hope to reach 300 again,” Kuntz said.
Package pickup for the run will be at 12:30 at the rink. The speaker will be on at 1:30 p.m. and the race starts at 2 p.m.
If you would like to take part, you can pick up registration forms around town including at the school and the Credit Union. You can also register for the event at the run itself.
