Swift Current/Moose Jaw Region Still Very Low Unemployment Rate – Swiftcurrentonline.com
Our region still has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Canada.
The rate in Swift Current/Moose Jaw was 3.5% in May, tied for the 5th lowest in Canada.
That’s down from 5% a year ago.
According to Statistics Canada there were 53,100 people employed in our region last month, an increase of 3200 people year-over-year.
The labour force is up by 2500 people to 55,000.
Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate sits at 4.3%, down from 5% a year ago and the lowest rate among the provinces.
It was a strong month nationally as the economy added 95,000 new jobs in the biggest month of employment growth in more than a decade.
The gains helped in dropping the unemployment rate one-tenth of a point to 7.1 per cent.
All the new jobs came in the private sector and in the employee class and 76,700 of them were full-time.
