CT Scanner Installation Complete Health & Wellness SouthWest Saskatchewan Cypress Health Region

The new computed tomography (CT) technology installed at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current is ready to go. The set-up for the new equipment has been completed and CT services are now transitioning back to normal status.

The new 64-slice General Electric high definition scanner has replaced the existing 10-slice unit which was originally installed in the previous Regional Hospital in the year 2004. The new scanner will offer a variety of benefits to patients, technologists and radiologists, and to the medical imaging service as a whole.

Coulter emphasized his appreciation for the public’s and family physicians’ patience during the recent installation period when the CT scanning services were unavailable locally. “We realize there have been some inconveniences without having a CT scanner available recently, but I can state with confidence that everyone’s patience has been rewarded with this tremendous addition to our department’s technology which will provide the highest level of CT services that we can.”

A remarkable donation of $1.2 million from the Estate of the late Mr. Roy Blanchard to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation paved the way for the purchase of the new technology. The donation had been directed towards the acquisition of a new CT scanner and the contribution has covered a significant portion of the $1.6 million total cost.

The Foundation is continuing its fundraising efforts to fulfill its objective of completely financing the costs associated with the scanner purchase and installation. In addition to accepting donations from interested individuals and organizations ahead of time, they will be hosting the annual Your Family’s Health Radiothon on October 3-4 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. All funds raised at the Radiothon will be directed to the financing of this very valuable addition to the region’s medical imaging department.

Plans are underway for an official grand opening event to acknowledge the Estate contribution to the new equipment and the many benefits that the CT scanner offers. More information will be available when this is confirmed.
