High school sports back in southwest Sask.

As the students head back to school, high school sports teams will once again starting practicing and playing games.  Athletes will be playing five fall sports – golf, soccer, football, volleyball and cross country.

    Our school division has four football teams this fall:
6-man – Gull Lake Lions
9- man – Maple Creek Redmen and Shaunavon Shadows
12-man – Swift Current Colts
All teams have started practice and will play their first games this week.  The following are games scheduled for September:

The Swift Current Ardens’ soccer team will be back to try and defend their title in the Moose Jaw soccer league.  Their September schedule is as follows:
Tues Sept 10:
Moose Jaw Vanier @ Swift Current
Sat Sept 14
Swift Current @ Weyburn at 10:30 and Swift Current @ Estevan at 2:45.  Both these games will be played in Moose Jaw.
Tues Sept 17
Moose Jaw Peacock @ Swift Current
Thurs Sept 26
Moose Jaw Central @ Swift Current
Sat Sept 28:
Swift Current @ Moose Jaw Vanier 10:30 and Swift Current @ Caronport 4:30.  Both these games will be played in Moose Jaw.
Our golfers will be competing in SWAC district playoffs looking for the chance to advance to provincials.  Our grass green golfers will play in Eastend at Streambank Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 16.  The sand green golfers will play in Frontier on Tuesday, Sept 17.  Both days the golf action will begin at 10:00 with golfers playing 18 holes.  Athletes will compete for the individual titles as well as team titles.  Provincial golf will be held on Sept 27 and 28.  The sand golf provincials will be hosted by Frontier while our grass green golfers will travel up to Goodsoil.
Volleyball will be in action as well with various tournaments taking place during September and October.  Playoffs for both juniors and seniors will not take place until November.  Please note there is a free volleyball officials clinic being held at Swift Current Comp (Lecture Theatre) on Thurs, Sept 5.  Start time is 6:30 p.m.
Our cross country runners will be competing in SWAC districts on Wed, Oct. 2 starting at 2:00 p.m.  This year our meet will be hosted by Hazlet.
