Local Job Numbers Again Strong
Our region continues to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.
Swift Current/Moose Jaw’s unemployment rate of 3% in August was second only to South Central Manitoba’s rate of 2.7%.
That’s a big drop from a rate of 4.7% a year ago.
There were approximately 52,500 jobs in our region in August, an increase of 1700 from August of 2012.
The labour force also grew from 53,300 last year to 54,100.
Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate also dropped year-over-year from 5% to 4.3%.
There are 565,700 jobs in the province, up 18,900 jobs from August of last year.
Canadian employment jumped 59,200 in August, reversing the 39,400 drop in July.
Full-time jobs rose 17,400 and part-time jobs grew 41,800.
The national unemployment rate is 7.1%, down from 7.3% this time last year.
