GPC Launches Registered Nursing Program
Great Plains College will officially launch their new Registered Nursing Program at their Swift Current Campus today.
“We’re extremely excited about it,” said College President David Keast. “It is a four-way partnership that is going to provide optimum levels of support and educational experience for the students out here.”
The program is a partnership between the college, Cypress Health Region, SIAST and the University of Regina, with Keast adding that this is an opportunity to work toward a model for the future of degree programming at the college, and others in Saskatchewan’s smaller centres.
“The partners recognize that if we made this work the right way through co-operation and communication, it’s going to be a step forward in providing students outside of the major centres in Saskatchewan with access to the best university education they could possibly get,” he said.
Eight students are enrolled for the program’s first year, and Keast says they will have a lot to offer those students, including video conferencing, bandwidth expansion, a new nursing lab, and access to Cypress Regional Hospital’s Simulation Laboratory.
The students will be honoured at a launch event this morning at the college’s Student Lounge, with representatives from the four partners and the Provincial Government expected to attend.
