Chinook Spreading News Through Social Media
With another school year underway the Chinook School Division is looking to social media as another way to reach out to the community.
They’ve launched Facebook and Twitter feeds in hopes of keeping people more in touch with what is happening in our schools.
“What we want to do with these is connect more directly with our people,” said Communications Coordinator Joanne Booth. “Our goal is creating a positive social media presence. We want to connect with people directly, provide links to some of our news items, retweet things that are going on in our division.”
The accounts could be interesting for everyone but are aimed specifically at a couple of groups.
“It’s mostly directed to parents as well as staff,” Booth said. “We cover a very large area. We’re the whole corner of southwest Saskatchewan and we have a lot of stuff. Upwards of almost 1200 staff… so it’s a good way for staff to connect to the division as well as each other.”
The school division had reminded parents to check websites for both the division and their schools at the start of the year. The hope is by getting more active on social media they can drive traffic to those sites for important information.
“It’s going to show up on your news feed and just remind you to check the site,” Booth said.
