5th Annual Radiothon Starts Today

5th Annual Radiothon Starts Today Health & Wellness SouthWest Saskatchewan Cypress Health Region This year’s Radiothon will raise money for the new CT Scanner at Cypress Regional Hospital

The fifth annual “Your Family’s Health Radiothon” starts this afternoon on Country Music Radio.

The two-day event will raise money for the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation that will go toward the new CT Scanner at Cypress Regional Hospital, which was installed this summer at a cost of $1.6 million. The foundation received a $1.2-million estate gift for the scanner earlier this year from the late Roy Blanchard, and they were looking to raise the rest of the money through their events.

“We’ve been concentrating our activities in 2013 to gathering that difference, and the radiothon show will hopefully finish that off,” said Clay Thompson, Executive Director of the Foundation.

The event has raised over $600,000 since the first Radiothon in 2009 to fund items like the Digital Mammography Unit and the Simulation lab, as well as other critical pieces of equipment for the hospital.

“There’s something that we’re doing every day for this facility or others throughout the Health Region, and I’ve kind of forgotten that over the last four or five years, we have done as many things as we had done, and many of them as a direct result of the radiothon show itself,” Thompson added.

And naturally, Thompson is hoping that the support will continue and the radiothon remains successful.

“I was in Kinsmen for a whole lot of years and, in fact, was involved in one of the very first Telemiracles way back when, and when it was established, there was some questions from year to year, would it be as successful as it was last year, and obviously, thirty-something years later, it’s still going strong,” he said. “We always hoped that it would catch on in the community and folks would pay attention and listen for it, and participate when they got the opportunity, and certainly that’s happened.

“We appreciate the work from Golden West in helping us get the word out every year. It has been very successful for us, and we’re hoping that Thursday and Friday this week will be the same,” Thompson said.

The radiothon starts at 1:00pm this afternoon and continues to 5:00pm Friday from the lobby of the Hospital, and will be broadcast live on CKSW 570 and CJSN 1490.
