Radiothon Enters Second Day
We’re through the first day of the “Your Family’s Health Radiothon” on Country Music Radio raising money for the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation.
Through the first day of the two-day radiothon the community has donated $56,248. It continues until 5pm on Friday.
This year we’re raising money for the new CT Scanner at the Cypress Regional Hospital. It was installed this summer in large part thanks to at $1.2 million estate gift from the late Roy Blanchard.
“We chose this for the CT scanner because we thought this was something that would certainly benefit the whole of southwest Saskatchewan,” said Blanchard’s niece Georgia Bratvold. “Before people to get this kind of scan had to go to Regina or Saskatoon. We felt this is kind of a legacy that could carry on in the community.”
His donation put a massive dent in the $1.6 million dollar cost of the scanner.
“To me it was perfect for what he intended money for,” Bratvold added. “This CT scanner will scan about 5500 scans a year. When I think about the help to all of these people to not have to travel so terribly far to get this service I think it’s wonderful.”
Bratvold noted her uncle was always very interested in local politics and his community throughout his life and 65 years as a farmer.
“He was good in the community,” she said. “He was a councillor for the RM of Lac Pelletier for several years and very interested in municipal politics and very interested in politics otherwise as well.”
The radiothon has raised over $600,000 since 2009 to fund items like the Digital Mammography Unit and the Simulation lab, as well as other critical pieces of equipment for the hospital.
We kicked the radiothon off with a relay run in hospital gowns from the Wheatland Mall to the hosptial between city staff, Golden West Radio staff and EMS staff.
You can listen to the broadcast live on CKSW 570 and CJSN 1490 and can phone in your pledges at 306-773-0666, or you can make your donation in person at the hospital.
