Business forum possible in 2014

In the hopes of working with the business community to help Gull Lake grow, the Town of Gull Lake is looking to host a business forum sometime in the spring of 2014. With a forum originally scheduled for the fall, the focus was shifted to the presentation to developers in Swift Current on Nov. 21.

“Earlier in the year, we met with local downtown businesses and asked a variety of questions to help council better understand the needs of our local businesses,” Mayor Blake Campbell said. “We would like to share this information with them and see what can be done to improve the local downtown economy.”

For town council, it is felt that it is important to connect with local businesses and understand the challenges they face.

“Every business in the downtown depends on other businesses to draw people to the downtown. I might stop at the local grocery store or bakery for a loaf of bread and may decide to go across the street for a meal at the local restaurant,” Mayor Campbell said. “While there may be no easy answer to some of the problems, we need to look for potential solutions better.”
