Throne Speech to Focus on Challenges of Growth
The new session of the Saskatchewan legislature starts today with the Speech from the Throne from Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Schofield.
Premier Brad Wall says the speech will touch on items to help better meet the challenges of growth, including more schools to help deal with the rise in the number of students.
On Tuesday, he announced nine new joint-use schools, similar to the Ecole Centennial and All Saints Catholic school project under construction in Swift Current, that will be built in Regina, Saskatoon, Martensville and Warman under Public-Private partnerships.
Long-term care is also expected to be a major topic, after NDP Leader Cam Broten pushed the issue in the spring sitting, saying more needs to be done to help seniors. A recent review of long-term care raised concerns that patients are not getting enough baths and residents are soiling themselves because there isn’t enough staff to help them get to the toilet.
The speech will be delivered at around 2:00pm this afternoon.
