Western Innovation Initiative in Place
Help is on the way from Ottawa to try and spur on new small and medium sized businesses in Western Canada.
The Western Innovation Initiative was announced on Friday by Western Economic Diversification Minster Michelle Rempel. It will help established businesses with under five hundred employees, take new products from the research stage and into production. $100 million dollars is being made available over the next five years.
The feds will put up a maximum of fifty percent of the start up costs for the business with the idea that other investors would also support the project long term, helping to create more jobs and local industry.
Rempel said they are many companies that have great ideas but they don’t have the funding to take it to the next level. This new initiative will help with that step.
