Saskatchewan’s Earnings Second Highest in August
Average weekly earnings for Saskatchewan were $955.00 for the month of August which is the second highest in the country behind Alberta.
“This is the place to be in terms of finding jobs,” Said Steven Tobin, Acting Director Labour Market Information with the Ministry of Economy. “We’ve had the lowest unemployment rates in the country for nine months now.”
The higher wages are an indication of the on going strength of the labour market and economy, and with higher wages people are more inclined to spend more making retail sales in the province some of the highest as well and will continue to stay that way.
“We’ve certainly been able to maintain a momentum, especially in terms of the labour market,” said Tobin, “Again, second highest earnings in the country this has continued on a trend again, third highest increase in earnings, so I think the momentum is there.”
According to a report released yesterday by Statistics Canada, earnings in Saskatchewan were up by 1.7 per cent on a year over year basis which is the third highest increase in the nation.
