Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall declares ‘Green Day’ in honour of Roughriders

Premier Brad Wall is encouraging everyone in Saskatchewan to wear green on Friday.

However, he isn’t declaring an extra holiday despite some lobbying for him to do so.

Wall told reporters in Regina on Tuesday that Twitter users have been urging him to make Monday a full statutory holiday in honour of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and their participation in the Grey Cup in Regina.

Some people even want to see the rest of this week declared such, too, according to Wall. But the premier isn’t going that far, he says.

“Holidays can happen in two ways for people. The government can declare it by statute or employers with big green hearts can just make it happen and we’ll probably leave it to employers,” Wall told reporters. But Wall does invite fans to wear green Friday for Rider support, declaring the day “Green Day.”
