Chinook Music Week will feature professional instruction

Chinook Music Week will feature professional instruction Education GULL LAKE SouthWest Saskatchewan Chinook School Division

Each year the Chinook Music Curriculum Advisory Committee, with the support of Chinook School Division, plans and puts on a week dedicated to music in the division.

The focus is different each year and has in the past featured Drum and Classroom workshops as well as Brass, Percussion and Choral.
This year the focus is on both choral and band clinicians. The first of these featured artists, BJ Harris, will share his talent in vocal workshops to take place Feb. 11-13 in Gull Lake, Wymark and Swift Current  (Ashley Park, Central, Oman, SCCHS).
Harris has a wealth of experience and talent, having taught in both public and private schools in Saskatoon and Prince Albert, working with students from pre-kindergarten through to Grade 12.
He was a founding member of the a cappella group Streetnix, and has directed and adjudicated choral groups for over a decade. He currently has a studio teaching voice lessons, writing and arranging music, and producing albums for local musicians.
Harris will be working with Chinook students in Grades 1 through to 12 during his three days of workshops and it will be a tremendous learning opportunity for both students and teachers. This year, marks the 8th annual Chinook Music Week which began in 2006, when Chinook music educators were looking for ways to collaborate and bring in first class performers, educators and clinicians to work with their students.
