Local Jobless Rate Rises Slightly
Despite a 0.9% increase over last year, our local unemployment rate is the second-lowest in all of Canada.
Swift Current/Moose Jaw had a jobless rate of 3%, up from 2.1% in January 2013. Red Deer was the only region with a lower unemployment rate at 2.8%.
There were 51,000 people employed in our area last month, which was down just 100 from January 2013, but the total labour force rose by 300 to 52,600.
Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate stood at 4.3%, the lowest among the provinces, and Canada’s unemployment rate saw a slight drop to 7.0%.
