Unemployment held steady in the southwest over the last year, and the local jobless rate is the fourth-lowest in all of Canada.
The latest job numbers had the unemployment rate for Swift Current/Moose Jaw at 1.9 per cent in May, the exact same number it was the same month in 2013.
51,800 people in the region were employed last month, down 1300 from May 2013, and the labour force population is now at 53,700, down from 55,000 last year.
Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate is at four per cent, and close to 561,000 people in the province were working in May.
The provincial unemployment rate now stands at 4.3 per cent.
