Gravel Roads Could Get Canola Oil Treatment Innovation Saskatchewan Roads and Highways Canola

Prairie Energy Resources has been researching ways to spray the gravel roads across Saskatchewan with something that will also help prevent damage.

Cooking and canola oil has been found to be sticky enough to repel water, prevent washboarding, and also keep the dust down.

The used oil is collected from restaurants and other establishments which helps recycle their waste while keeping the roads unscarred.

The hopeful result is preventing damage to the gravel roads to have less cost when coming to fix them.

For now, only a small amount of road across the province has been sprayed as to test the results.
