Various communities around the Southwest are taking part in the Provincial Communities in Bloom program.
Gull Lake is one of those communities. Ed Lowenberger is the Chairman of the Communities in Bloom Committee in Gull Lake. He explains what the program is all about.
“It is a non-profit program and what it does is promote civic pride, environmental responsibility, beautification, through community participation and the challenge of a national program.”
The Town of Gull Lake has been busy cleaning up areas of the community, as well as planting flowers and gardens in preparation for the judge’s arrival today.
“This year is our second year of participating in Communities in Bloom, and our 1st year in the provincial competition. We are judged in 6 categories against other communities the same size as Gull Lake,” adds Lowenberger.
Other communities taking part in the program include Eastend, Maple Creek and Shaunavon.
The winners of the competition will be announced in October.
