The Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation is once again preparing for the 6th annual Your Family’s Health Radiothon, which will be broadcast September 25th and 26th live on Country Music Radio from Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current.

This year’s goal is to purchase a Versapulse Holmium laser for the hospital, which is a versatile machine that can be used in a variety of areas.

“Primarily, the Cypress Regional Hospital will use it for urology, and it is also a piece of equipment that is recommended for gastroenterology, gynecology, orthopedics, podiatry, there’s a whole list of potential uses for it,” said Sean Finell with the foundation. “It’s hopefully something that the Cypress Regional Hospital will be able to use for a number of years.”

Currently, the laser is only accessible in Saskatchewan at hospitals in Regina and Saskatoon.

Finell says the public’s support of the Radiothon has been crucial to improving the quality and availability of healthcare in the southwest.

“In the past several years, there’s the CT scanner, the digital mammography unit, there’s all kinds of examples of how the Foundation’s work and the generosity of the citizens of the southwest have come together to make healthcare better and help improve lives and give people a chance at better healthcare right here at home so they don’t have to travel,” he added.

In support of the cause, events for the Radiothon will be taking place throughout September. The foundation will hold a pancake breakfast on September 13th at Market Square, with pancakes, sausage, and coffee or juice served for $3.00 from 8:30am to 10:30am, and Pioneer Co-op is donating two cents from every litre of gas sold at the Wheatland Mall and Southside service stations to the Radiothon from September 14th to 20th.

The Magic 97 River Run is on September 20th at Riverside Park, which is a 5km run or walk or a 10km run to support the foundation. Registration costs from this event will be donated to the Radiothon, and you can sign up in advance at events.runningroom.com.
