There is no reason that once you hit your Golden Years that you shouldn’t still be finding ways to be active. Even past the age of 55, you can still find ways to be active, while competing in the sports that you love. This is the goal of the 55 Plus Games, which have been running since 1988, every two years, with the most recent incarnation occurring in Humboldt this past week.
Gull Lake was represented at the Games this year, and two locals came away as big winners.
Sandra Benallack, competing in the Women 55+ category, took home gold in the 5-Pin Bowling – Individual POA competition.
Walter Yates, competing in the Men 80+ Low Gross Golf Competition, took home silver as well, coming in just behind a competitor from Regina.
In total, 44 athletes from southwest Saskatchewan competing, along with nearly 250 other athletes. A total of 55 medals, including 30 gold, 19 silver and six bronze were won by southwest athletes.
