This is the time of year to reflect and give thanks. My first thanks is for the many volunteers in our community who give their time to make Gull Lake special. Last night’s Old Fashioned Christmas celebration got me started. From the Kinettes who seem to be EVERYWHERE volunteering their time and service, to our fire chief and his wife for driving the fire truck full of little (and big;)) kids around town, local business people who stayed after their long day of work to shar…e goodies with so many, and, of course, the photographer running around trying to capture everything and everyone involved. We also have other volunteer organizations such as the Elk’s and Royal Purple who have been ever present in our community for so long.
Move along to the two rinks in town where many people have also spent countless hours through the years to keep these facilities running.
Stop by the Special Care Home and Autumn House and see many people who bring happiness to the residents through their visits.
I can’t forget the school where people also put in extra time for the children to participate in extra curricular activities.
There are many other neighbourly acts going on that we might not even think about such as snow shovelling ….the list goes on and on.
When families suffer a loss such as we just have, everyone is so supportive.
Go to the rink at public skating time and see the big and little “kids” playing shinny or just skating. There is always someone stopping by the smaller kids to encourage them or pass the puck back and forth.
As a happy resident of small town Saskatchewan, I want to stop and thank people for all they do and have done through the years. Is there a better place to live? I think not!
Have yourself a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
