Dangerous Goods/Heavy Truck Bypass soon to be a Reality for Gull Lake Residents

Green Terminal Road will soon be paved allowing for the creation of a Dangerous Goods/Heavy Truck Bypass. Gull Lake residents have been asking for the bypass for a number of years as the amount of heavy truck/ dangerous goods traffic has significantly increased over the past several years. In the “Community Needs Assessment” done earlier this year the bypass was one of the top concerns for residents.

Both past and present Town Councils have been working with the R.M. of Gull Lake and Department of Highways over the past few years to help move this project forward. The Bypass will help to make our streets and community safer by reducing the amount of dangerous goods and heavy truck traffic traveling through the community.

I would like to thank the many residents for the letters of support they have written to the Department of Highways over the years. This project has been in the works for a number of years, and I would like to thank the past and present council members of both the Town and the R.M. of Gull Lake for their efforts! This was a real example of what can be accomplished when municipalities work together on projects that benefit everyone.

The Town has agreed in a letter of intent provided to the R.M. of Gull Lake to a financial contribution of $200,000 payable in annual installments of $10,000 to help towards the paving costs. The letter of intent requires all details surrounding the cost and details of the project, including funding sources and a, “Dangerous Goods” designation to the bypass to help reduce the amount of Dangerous Goods going through the community daily.  For those who would like to know more about the project, an open house will be held on June 22, 2015, at the R.M. of Gull Lake Office (1184 Conrad Ave) from 1PM to 4PM.
