Southwest Municipal Government Committee

The Southwest Municipal Government Committee is a group of 20 to 30 urban and rural municipalities from the southwest that meets regularly in Swift Current. The committee provides an excellent opportunity for participating municipalities to discuss common issues and challenges with other municipalities.

Meetings typically have guest speakers who speak on a variety of topics relevant to municipalities. The meeting held yesterday had guest speakers from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and Sask Tel in attendance. Presentations were made by both and municipal representatives had the opportunity to ask questions and pass along residents issues or concerns after the presentations.

Members also have the opportunity at meetings to hear about what is going on in other communities in the roundtable portion of the meeting. This sharing of information is a good opportunity to pick up new ideas for your community or perhaps a solution to a shared problem a neighboring municipality may be having.

Regular reports from SARM, SUMA, Chinook School Division, Chinook Regional Library, and Great Plains College keep members informed on the happenings of these organizations.

This is a unique and valuable committee that helps serve the municipalities of Southwest Saskatchewan.
