Earlier this year the Gull Lake Recreation Complex’s aging Parking Lot suffered significant failures. There were also problems with the eavestroughs/ downspouts that were failing to provide proper drainage of water away from the foundation of the building. Jersey Barriers have replaced the steel railing that was removed during the repaving of the parking lot.
The Town of Gull Lake cost of the repairs is as follows:
– Mobile Paving – rink parking lot – $210,090.00
– Gray Point Contracting – eavestroughs/ downspouts – $19,981.00
– Jersey Barriers – parking lot – $6,100.00
Total Project Cost $236,171.00
The investment was needed to help sustain the Recreation Complex that has served our community and area for the past 35 years.
The Gull Lake & District Recreation Complex Board has done a tremendous job at fundraising for important upgrades and improvements. They have recently invested $199,000 into repairing the roof of the facility. As the facility ages, the cost and scope of these upgrades and improvements exceed what the volunteer board can be expected to manage. Traditional Recreation Board grants provided by municipalities are no longer adequate to deal with major capital projects. Assistance from the Town and surrounding municipalities is essential for these larger projects.
As the Recreation Complex is a Regional Facility the Town reached out to surrounding municipalities (RM of Carmichael, RM of Gull Lake, and RM of Webb) to help cost-share the expenses. The Town of Gull Lake extends thanks to our municipal partners who helped cost-share the expenses. The R.M. of Gull Lake contributed $20,000.00, and the R.M. of Carmicheal contributed $3,300.00.
By working together municipalities can help our volunteer rink board members restore our aging facility.
