This year our community has been significantly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. With that in mind, the Town Council approved the 2020 budget, and tax rates will remain the same as last year. Residents can expect to see tax notices sometime in the next few days.
The Elks Hall will be getting a new roof this year. The necessary repair to the roof will be $113,145 and the cost will be covered by grants. The grants used include $25,000 from New Horizons for Seniors Program, $6,000 Recreation Board, $1,000 from RBC, and the remaining $81,145 from the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program. The local hall was turned over to the town several months ago and typically sees a number of social functions every year including Spring Markets, Dancing, Funerals, Meetings, and Community Fundraising Events.
The Last Chance Bar and Grill was approved for the Façade Improvement Program to complete adding outdoor lighting to the exterior of the building. Earlier this year the Grainery Bakery was approved for the Existing Business Tax Incentive granted to existing businesses purchased by new owners. The local bakery is currently undergoing interior renovations and at some point, façade improvements are also planned. It is encouraging to see local businesses taking advantage of economic incentives to help improve their businesses.
When the pandemic started a few months ago Town Council suspended interest charges from being charged on Utility Bills. With the provincial economy opening up interest charges will be reinstated on the next billing on any outstanding amounts.
During the pandemic Council Meetings are being held in the Elks Hall to allow for social distancing. Summer meetings will take place on July 22nd and August 26th.
